BIO
Being born and raised in the sunny region of pink and turquoise known as South Florida allowed me exposure to all the best aspects of a tropical cityscape; laid back, cosmopolitan, artsy, political, adventurous. After living in various parts of the U.S. and traveling the globe whenever the opportunity has arisen, I have been fortunate to be able to experience so many sides of so many worlds.
My background started out in Theatre and Writing, and in later years evolved into an intense interest in Film. The quest to become a Filmmaker lead me to relocate to New York City, where I became involved in the Film & Television world. My enthusiasm for photography was definitely seeded through my father, who always had a camera pointed, while alternately, I always had myself flung mid-jump into some exploit or another. Though our styles and dispositions differ, the work ethic, unstoppable laughter and bonding that we have shared through photography keeps me excited to constantly learn and explore behind the lens.
I have two very different modes that I find most inspiring to shoot in. On one side, I enjoy the spontaneity of candid, photojournalistic photography. I love the autonomy of a subject, the camera and the wind. There is a wonderful choose-your-own-adventure aspect to winging it, where you are able to capture that one perfect moment of a deep-seated laugh, the moment a wave crashes overhead, or an entranced gaze off into the future. I hope to immortalize those tiny slivers of reality and art that we often walk right by.
On the other end of the spectrum, I can’t resist the absolute rush of putting together the spectacular circus of a full-blown editorial layout. I adore the freedom of the imagination being set wild on a canvas, where you have the opportunity to build and direct highly stylized, creatively thought-out setups. If it’s colorful, over-the-top, moody, fantastical or downright quirky, the chance is that I have a huge smile on my face and am waist-deep in creating it.
I have also been incredibly lucky to find a niche in Underwater Photography. I grew up in and around the water and the second I took a camera under with me, everything clicked. I primarily shoot models and people underwater, whether for advertising, home portraiture or art. The difficulty and end result of shooting under these circumstances makes it one of my all-time favorite activities to date.
In whatever setting, I am always looking for new ways to enhance my styles and evolve, to find ways to tell stories through film, writing and photography. I am also interested in helping other people do the same. I currently reside in both New York City and South Florida.
